The Ministry of Trade wants to develop Indonesia's digital economy industries or products for the global market. Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Jerry Sambuaga said one of the products being developed was crypto assets and an online game industry made by Indonesian children.
Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga confirmed that crypto assets are not a means of payment and are currently under the supervision of CoFTRA. Jerry detailed, crypto players in Indonesia have continued to grow since 2019. He is aggressively developing crypto in Indonesia by finding players and forming associations.
The Ministry of Trade noted that the transaction value of crypto assets in Indonesia was IDR 64.9 trillion in 2020 and IDR 859.4 trillion was recorded in 2021. As for the January-February 2022 period, IDR 83.8 trillion was recorded. Furthermore, crypto players in Indonesia are on average 21-30 years old with a total of 12.7 million as of February 2022.
"This is an extraordinary increase. This condition must continue to be encouraged so that it is contributive to the country, especially from a tax perspective," Jerry said during a working visit to the South Korean Ambassador, Wednesday (8/6).
Therefore, currently the Ministry of Trade is continuing to formulate rules for crypto assets to be listed on the stock exchange. The crypto exchange will have a focus on protecting business actors so that relations between all parties can run well, clearly and safely.
Furthermore, Jerry also focuses on the online game industry, which is currently growing in Indonesia. He gave an example, online games from Bandung can be exported abroad just like goods.
"Imagine if one feature in one game costs Rp. 10,000. If there are 100 or even 500 million downloaded by buying, then multiplied by 10,000 rupiah, the amount is very large and has the potential to become new income," he said.
Seeing this opportunity, the Founder and CEO of PINTU or a crypto asset trading platform in Indonesia, Jeth Soetoyo, ensured that he would make good use of it. He thinks there are similarities between the online gaming industry and crypto.
“We see that there are similarities between the gaming industry and cryptocurrencies. One of them is favored by young people and can be accessed globally. In playing games, they can play with gamers abroad, similarly with crypto assets, investors can buy assets that are global in nature. Besides that, we also want to emphasize that investing in crypto assets is very easy.” said Jeth Soetoyo via written message, Monday (27/6).
To take advantage of the market from gamers, said Jeth Soetoyo, his party has partnered with or sponsored an esports club from Indonesia, Rex Regum Qeon or better known as RRQ.
He wants to present the 'Smart Ways to Earn' campaign which aims to share experiences about the importance of investing early, especially for gamers.
"Through this collaboration, we want to invite the gamer community to understand more about crypto investment and not forget the importance of financial health. The rapid growth of the game and crypto industry must be balanced with financial awareness, especially gamers in Indonesia, which are very large, which are dominated by the younger generation," said Jeth Soetoyo.
“PINTU and RRQ invite esports lovers to start investing early. Play games smartly and keep thinking for the future through investing," he continued.
RRQ CEO, Andrian Pauline, welcomed the invitation to cooperate to promote investment for gamers and esports lovers. He also feels that what PINTU is doing is an effort to support the growth of the esports industry in Indonesia.
"The Smart Ways to Earn campaign complements PINTU's journey with RRQ in promoting the game and crypto industry which generates added value in terms of education and further increases the interest of the younger generation in investing in crypto assets," said Andrian.
